I am a professional artist based in the New York area, with over 30 years of exhibiting work in the United States and internationally. My practice has evolved from the disciplined traditions of Chinese brush painting to expansive, intuitive mixed media work.
My early training in Chinese brush painting was rooted in precision—each stroke deliberate, controlled, and deeply considered. This foundation instilled a lifelong sensitivity to line, movement, and the balance between restraint and expression.
That sense of precision carried into my exploration of altered books and “in-page” works. Working directly within existing texts, I developed a meticulous process of drawing, blocking, revealing, and composing—where words, spacing, and structure became as significant as the imagery itself.
Today, my work has expanded into large-scale abstract paintings on raw canvas. Using inks, watercolors, and acrylics, I build layered surfaces that embrace fluidity and unpredictability. I am drawn to the freedom of the process—allowing materials to move, bleed, and interact—then responding intuitively, improvising and guiding the work as it unfolds. A balance between control and release, intention and discovery.
